Insulated packaging for shipping

Insulated packaging for shipping is a complete pack-out: insulation, cooling media, absorption and a loading plan matched to your box and payload. Your process is as important as the materials. Precondition the cooling, stabilise product temperature before packing, then close the system quickly to avoid thermal spikes.

• Temperature targets

Gelpacks, Ice Pack XL and hard cold elements are intended for shipping 2-8 degrees. When shipping frozen products, use PCM gelpacks. -16 is easier to freeze than -21. -21 requires a completely different freezer. Choose the PCM that matches your cold room or blast freezer capability.

• Cooling duration

There is no fixed cooling period for a packaging or ice pack, cooling element or gelpack. Performance depends on insulation value, cooling mass, ambient profile, box fill and handling. We have customers who reach 72h with the right combination of EPS or paper insulation and properly conditioned cooling blocks.

• Insulation choices

EPS offers high thermal resistance and strong corner protection, ideal for road and airfreight. Paper-based systems such as EcoCoolBox and RecyCold ClimaLiner deliver efficient, custom eco-friendly packaging solutions with simplified disposal for consignees.

• Moisture management

Keep the pack dry and hygienic by adding absorption under trays or around primary packs when needed, especially for meat and seafood. This protects labels, cartons and retail presentation.

• Pack-out discipline

Load cold side to cold side, avoid voids, and lock the cooling against the walls or lid where the heat load is highest. Tape or strap the lid to prevent air exchange.
